Step by Step
Sustainable Integration into the Primary Labor Market for People with Disabilities
- Project Number: 1B-18/308
- Grants Program: Equal 2
- Project Period: 2005 - 2007
Project Description
For two years, Lebenshilfen Soziale Dienste GmbH participated in the development partnershipnext Step, which was part of the EU program EQUAL 2, by contributing the module Step by Step. The aim of the partnership was to develop and implement innovative forms of sustainable integration of disadvantaged people in the labor market: People with disabilities, whose productivity is said to be about 50% of others, ought to be given employment with social security benefits in the general labor market.
That people with an intellectual disability are counted as equal in the workplace has long been a rather utopian idea, especially when it comes to implementing it. But for us at Lebenshilfen Soziale Dienste GmbH, this vision has always been a major philosophy of our work. In 2006, this vision took one step closer to becoming a reality, and four people with disabilities were integrated into the professional world: As a project partner, the City of Graz created four positions for them.
