Project Description
Most women and men find preparing for parenthood and family planning to be an exciting, wonderful time. People with disabilities also want children and dream of their own family, but are seldom encouraged or adequately supported. People with disabilities have to struggle against a system that leads them to be dependent on, and determined by, others.
Many international good practice examples show that parents with disabilities are capable of developing skills to raise children and lead a self-determined family life. Adequate support and learning programs are prerequisites for this.
With this project, Lebenshilfen Soziale Dienste GmbH wishes to
- support people with disabilities in their partnerships, with marriage, parenthood, and in family matters
- establish and strengthen family competences through intergenerational learning
- motivate and enable volunteers, especially families and older people, to assist parents with disabilities in a subtle and continuous manner
- learn from good practice examples
