Project Description
Taking on the role of a parent is always a decisive moment in the life of a person. Add to that the fact that the child is born with an impairment, and the parents will often feel left alone and overwhelmed. This might result in considerable restrictions in their personal lives and psychological and emotional coping issues, and might even affect the parents’ work. Mothers often see themselves forced to quit their jobs.
The aim of this project is to support parents with children with disabilities in terms of advice, information, and special long-term educational needs.
Two of the project’s main aims are
- to develop and disseminate an easy-to-read information package about the requirements and support options as well as contact addresses on both national and European levels
- to encourage the active participation of parents in educational courses and the selection and implementation of support measures for people with disabilities
Target groups of this project are parents and assistants of children with disabilities as well as disability care experts and government employees who are in direct contact with people with disabilities and their families.
