Project Description

IBB 2 is the continuation of the successfull » EU project IBB. From 2003 to 2006, we developed an inclusive training model to train people with learning difficulties as inclusive care workers. People with learning difficulties and disabilities are able for the first time to complete a vocational training in a social profession.

Until now, people with disabilities have not been able to access the social sector or the disability sector in a professional capacity – there is virtually no tradition for this in Europe. Going down this exciting new path requires adequate support systems which also incorporate employers and the new team in the process. This poses the new challenge of no longer seeing people with disabilities as clients, but as colleagues.

The aim of the IBB2 project (Integrative Behindertenbetreuung, Inclusive Disability Care) is to support inclusive care workers during their job entry. Six organizations from five countries have worked on the development and trial of the IBB2 model for a period of two years. The result was a support system that is geared toward the needs of all people involved in the process (employers, colleagues, and inclusive care workers).

The model is based on three modules which provide for an analysis of the future workplace and the legal framework (laws and regulations) on the one hand, and for the development of a special Diversity Team Workshop on the other hand, which the inclusive care worker and the new work environment may use shortly before job entry. The final module deals with the mentoring process taking place between the inclusive care worker and a colleague he or she has selected as a confidant. A timely networking process for all people involved further contributes to the model’s successful implementation.
